Entering Egypt

This section blends with the next section. Not much is said of their time in Egypt. It was a short time that they stayed in Egypt and as they entered in a hurry, they just as fast were getting settled into the lifestyle there.
Our passage is the one that is stated at your first stop.

Matthew 2:13-15
13 After they were gone, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Get up! Take the child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. For Herod is about to search for the child to destroy Him.” 14 So he got up, took the child and His mother during the night, and escaped to Egypt. 15 He stayed there until Herod’s death, so that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled: Out of Egypt I called My Son.

Historical documents state that their was a large Jewish presence in Alexandria, Egypt. So, it was suggested that this was where Joseph would have more than likely fled to. There were two common ways to get to Alexandria. One was by the Phoenician sea route, or by the land trade route that took them through the wilderness on the trade road to Africa. It is presumed that this walking route to Africa was the way in which they took. Interestingly they would have passed many traders, travelers, and also raiders along their journey. This was a heavily used trade route. It would have also been very easy for them to disappear into the crowd this way.
Keep in mind Jesus is only 1.5 years old at this point. He is a little fella as dad and mom scramble to find a place and get setup in their new home and way of life.
If you have ever had to move around for unpleasant circumstances then you could understand the stress level is high. But Joseph and Mary trust God is in all of this. And He is leading the way, even here. Whether they recognized that this going to Egypt was more than just keeping them alive, it was also about God fulfilling everything that He promised.

Hosea 11:1
When Israel was a child, I loved him,
and out of Egypt I called My son.

This passage is twofold. It is referencing the past of how God called the Jewish people out of Egypt and set them free to serve God as His ambassadors for all the world. But it is also prophetic, speaking to the future, of how the Son of God/Son of Man, would also be called out of Egypt.
Remember this about God. Everything that He does is something that He has already done. He is calling His Son out of Egypt, and the result is well you will see…
